TROTWOOD, Ohio (WKEF)– A vacant lot on Shiloh Springs Road in Trottwood was home to Hara Arena until its demolition in 2020. Dayton 24/7 Now Kysha Hancock was at Trotwood with the state’s latest effort to convert the site into a mental health facility.
At Monday evening’s city council meeting, Trotwood city leaders unanimously passed a resolution opposing the state’s plan to build a forensic mental health facility at the former site of Hara Arena on Shiloh Springs Road.
Forensic mental health facilities are intended to provide treatment to people suffering from mental illness who have been through the criminal justice system.
Trotwood Mayor Yvette Page said introducing a forensic mental health facility is inconsistent with the city’s vision of creating jobs, revitalizing the economy and improving the quality of life for residents.
The city disagrees with the plan, but Page said it is still talking with the state to find alternatives in other locations.
The statement page said in part:
“We’re not rejecting facilities. We’re saying let’s find a better place that works for everyone. We’re ready to be part of that solution.”
Hancock has reached out to the province for comment but has not yet heard back.
