Cape Town – South African comedian Leon Schuster has opened up about his struggles with depression and loneliness in a new KykNET documentary titled: Schuster.
The 74-year-old is famous for his pranks and comedy films such as: You must be kidding., Oh Schucks, I’m Gatvoland Mr. BonesHe revealed that he battles chronic depression, especially on Sunday evenings.
He said he tries to stay with his family to avoid feeling isolated.
“I get depressed when the sun goes down on Sunday evenings, so I try my best to have the kids visit me on Sundays, and then we have a braai until they go to bed,” Schuster said.
“I look for friends and I don’t want to be alone. When no one visits me, I sit on the stairs and think about life. That’s not a good thing. One needs to be busy.”
Schuster also admitted that her biggest fear is growing old alone, as she is currently living without a partner.
He was previously married to Lalie and they have four children and several grandchildren.
In recent years, Schuster has faced serious health issues, including chronic back pain and periods of immobility.
