Over the last few weeks, I have learned that it is difficult to ignore the headline of the US public health. Cases of measles are going up. The vaccination rate falls. The hundred day cough is returning. Thousands of government experts have been fired or resigned.

Among these crises, the United States is experiencing intense distrust of public health in many ways. There must be a cafe community, and there are often anti -party communities that make you distrust both US health and large pharmaceutical companies. He also trusted the health agency, but is currently skeptical of the US President Donald Trump, especially the Minister of Health and Welfare Robert F Kennedy Jr.

What is the meaning of health results when many people don’t believe in doctors, pharmaceutical companies and public institutions that deal with us? What can you do to regain trust?

Our conversation was a heavy conversation -but I found Wen’s suggestion on how to approach parents and vaccine skepticists at this moment. If you have a few minutes of extra time, please see or read some conversations below.

Below is an excerpt from the edited conversation for length and clarity.

KATTY KAY: What are you worried about in this unbelief climate? What are you worried about?

Leana Victory: We have a very fast influence on vaccine preventive diseases. We are already seeing the largest measles in the United States for the past 30 years. Measles are Removed Since 2000, the United States can lose its removal state of measles. We are seeing cases where things like coughing come to mind. If the vaccination rate for other diseases falls, we can also see the return of rubella, chickenpox, and even pediatric paradise that we could not actually think about a few years ago.

But if there is distrust of the vaccine, this also means that there is a distrust of authority, science, scientific methods, science, and how research studies. And it can also have a negative impact on many other aspects of health.

Kk: Are there any things that work to return people to a position where they can have distrustful medical authorities? But they ‘like, I can believe in authority. Can I believe that science speaks to me? ‘

LW: The key aspect of becoming a doctor is a one -on -one dialogue with our patients, and we never approach this conversation with the assumption that we are right and you are wrong in a one -on -one conversation we are undergoing a lot of change. We come to a conversation, asking people what they think, what they have heard, and why they believe in one thing, and then meet the location of the conversation.

Often, it means that we must overlook the opposition to the vaccine. Because we don’t want to push them too much. Then they can now go out without being willing to treat hypertension and diabetes. So I think that part of building that trust is to know the timing and timing of actually raising the case.

Not frustrated options -Leana Wen

Kk: If your child is talking with a child of a child who doesn’t want to be vaccinated for measles, what can you say to those and children who are afraid of measles vaccine, what do you say to them?

LW: I think I’ll start with more questions about what they are afraid of. Are they afraid of all the vaccines or are you afraid of this vaccine? Exactly what is your concerns?

On the other hand, if all the vaccines they are worried about, they will refer to the reality of measles because they do not believe that measles is so serious. Yes. Most people who go through measles will have a light case, but that’s true. One in 5 people have pneumonia. One in 20 will eventually be hospitalized. 1-3 out of a thousand people with measles Will.

So I think it depends on what a particular problem is. But ultimately the message is very simple. The vaccine is safe. They are effective. They are saving life.

Kk: Do you think it’s impossible to persuade people because people are almost lacking in the environment where we live? What are you personally disappointed as a scientist and doctor?

LW: I don’t think it’s a frustrating option, so I think it will look like an individual conversation with patients. And you will not touch this topic for the time being. And again, I do not want to drive you in all other recommendations that are important to your health. If you do not see me as a doctor, you will probably go to someone who is attacked about what you are talking about. Then you will not be treated. It is not a good result.

Aside from a specific difference, I think it is reasonable to approach later and focus on the areas of commonality. But above all, I think it’s important not to come to an individual who does not agree with contempt, skepticism or anger. Because it leads to a defensive response.

Kk: After two children in April Death in measlesRobert F Kennedy has approved MMR vaccines to prevent measles. He then was attacked online by people in the anti -ploming camp, and he was very disappointed that he and approved the vaccine. One day later, he posted his photos on two doctors and MMR vaccines against the vaccine. And he called them a special therapist. And he also promoted unproven treatment.

So I am very confused about the position of the vaccine. And when my children are still young, when I was on the stage where I had to be vaccinated, I would be confused as a parent. Is it clear where the minister of the Health Minister is standing, especially when measles occurred in the current country in the measles vaccine, especially for measles vaccines?

LW: Yes, it is very clear about where RFK JR is, but I think your interpretation is very fair and very accurate. He is confused because he is confused because he is trying to talk with two different constituencies that are completely opposed to two different constituencies.

On the other hand, RFK JR is a well -known vaccine conspiracy theorist who has established and operated a vanbabine organization for decades. He seems to be a champion by the people who do half -aging movements. So it is the core constituency that plays this role, and he must place them. So he says a lot of things that are very harmful and not true. For example, we talk about the seriousness of measles infections, not treatments.

Obviously, there is no specific antivirus to treat measles. So he talks about steroids, antibiotics and measles. In any way, it also plays the seriousness of the disease. People think that there is a treatment that does not exist by mistake.

At the same time, he continues to spread suspicion of the safety and effects of the MMR vaccine. He said he has caused the disease as much as measles in recent weeks. He continued to encourage the controversy that MMR vaccines were tied to autism. He published a study to study this conspiracy.

So he is now walking on the line between trying to appease the Van Bassin Camp and trying to appease some people, including a moderate Republican circle who is trying to say something like ‘Well, Measles is a good thing’.

So he is confused because he is trying to say both. Because he actually intends.

(In a statement on the BBC, Vianca N Rodriguez Feliciano, the reporter of the Ministry of Health and Welfare, the department promises to build a public trust in science, especially Kennedy is not a rebel-and he is kind, friendly and dubious. ” Said.

Feliciano says that “Kennedy is preaching wrong information or undermining vaccine trust.

Kk: Have you ever thought that in the last three months of all these changes on the US health front?

LW: Look, I think it’s a good idea to review what happened. For example, do you have the most efficient process for new drug approval? Can I place artificial intelligence in a more thoughtful way? I think it is good for us to investigate this way.

I also think that some of the American Make Healthing, a movement of Robert F Kennedy JR, can be helpful again. It is difficult not to agree when trying to cut a chronic disease. When he talks about cutting processed foods or improving nutrition as a child, it is difficult to comply with him.

These are all good, what we need to do. But of course, what is the only question with these goals?
