Amazon’s efforts to become a true all-in-one healthcare service have already been seen with same-day prescription delivery. The office now allows you to pick up your medication from a vending machine right after your appointment.

amazon pharmacy It will be rolling out at One Medical practices across Los Angeles starting in December, and plans are already in place to expand to other locations in the near future. Amazon says it plans to combat the high rate of people not submitting prescriptions by making them readily available at the point of care. If people don’t have to make a separate trip to a dedicated pharmacy to fill their prescriptions, they are more likely to get their prescriptions filled, while clinicians don’t have to worry about their patients’ conditions going untreated.

One Medical customers can request prescription pickup from an on-site Amazon Pharmacy Kiosk in the Amazon app as soon as the prescription is delivered, and the company promises most medications can be picked up within minutes. To use the service, you must already have an Amazon Pharmacy account and attend an appointment at a participating One Medical location.

Upfront costs and available deductibles will be displayed in the Amazon app before you check out, and you can also connect to an Amazon Pharmacy pharmacist through the app for a video or phone consultation if needed. Medicines stored in vending machines include antibiotics, inhalers and blood pressure medications, but do not include controlled substances or medications that require refrigeration.

A One Medical subscription typically costs $9 per month, $99 per year for Prime members, and $199 for all other members. We offer $30 off membership to Prime customers. You can also schedule a virtual appointment for a one-time fee without a membership, but you will need to visit a One Medical office in person to use the Amazon Pharmacy Kiosk during the launch period. Amazon says there won’t be any additional charges to use the machine, regardless of whether you’re a Prime member or not.
