The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has recalled nearly 500,000 bottles of the blood pressure medication Prazosin hydrochloride due to concerns about the chemical causing cancer.

The 580,000 bottles of Prazosin, the drug subject to recall, help lower blood pressure and relax blood vessels. It may also be prescribed for sleep disorders, nightmares, and accidents such as PTSD.

The affected drugs were recalled by Teva Pharmaceuticals USA and Amerisource Health Services earlier this month.

The recall warned of potential “unlikely events of temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences or serious adverse health consequences.” This is based on the classification of the recall. Class II.

The FDA urged patients to call their doctor or pharmacy if they have any questions or concerns about the drug.
