Measles virus may remain on the air and surface for up to two hours after an infected person left the area. Someone can be infected by breathing in a contaminated air or touching an infected surface and then touching the eyes, nose or mouth.

Health officials recommend that they get measles vaccines if they haven’t yet done so.
