Richmond, va. (WWBT) -The Virginia Ministry of Health is reporting the first measles in the week.
According to VDH, the patient is a child under 4 years of age in the northwestern region of recently traveled internationally.
VDH, a scholar of VDH, said, “This first measles in Virginia this year reminds us of how easy this epidemic can spread, especially on international travel.” Vaccination remains the best defense of measles and is safe and effective in protecting and developing people. We urge the Virginians, especially travel plans, checking the vaccination status, talking with medical service providers, and getting MMR vaccines if necessary. “
Health officials are adjusting their efforts to identify exposed people.
VDH has checked the date, time and location of Virginia’s potential exposure sites.
- On Tuesday, April 15, at 10:30 am, Kaiser Permanente Caton Hill Medical Center, Advanced Urgent Care, located in Woodbridge’s 13285 MINNIEVILLE ROAD until 1:30 pm
- Kaiser permanente Fredericksburg Medical Center of Pediatrics located at 1201 Hospital Drive in Fred Ricksburg from Noon Wednesday, April 16th.
Health officials say that those who were in two potential exposure places and did not receive measles containing vaccines have a risk of measles and should immediately contact the medical service provider.
VDH is also recommended to see symptoms for 21 days after potential exposure date. If measles appear, stay home immediately and separate yourself. If you need to get medical services, call in advance before going to the medical service provider’s office or the emergency room.
If you have received a two -dose of measles, or if you are born before 1957, you do not need to be protected and take action. If you receive a measles only once, you are likely to be protected and there is a very low risk of infection of measles caused by these exposure. But if you want to get the highest level of protection, please contact your medical service provider to get a second vaccine dose.
