Open enrollment for the Affordable Care Act opens Saturday, and this year’s enrollment period is expected to see the largest increase in costs since the law went into effect more than a decade ago. More than 24 million Americans receive health insurance through the ACA, also known as Obamacare.

A KFF analysis found that insurers are raising premiums by an average of 30% in states that use HealthCare.gov and by an average of 17% in states that operate their own marketplaces.

Ahead of Election Day, New York City mayoral frontrunner Zohran Mamdani portrayed himself in an interview with NBC News as the city’s bastion against President Donald Trump, even as the president threatened his hometown over Mamdani’s victory.
In the interview, Mamdani laid out his strategy for handling Immigration and Customs Enforcement raids in New York City and expressed confidence in his ability to run the city at age 34. Noem rejects request to stop ICE raids on Halloween
Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem has rejected Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker’s request to suspend immigration enforcement in the Chicago area until after Halloween.

Residents said immigration officers used aggressive tactics, including deploying tear gas, as they argued with neighbors who were offended by their activities. The judge noted that this was the type of activity she was trying to discourage in residential areas.
