Lolly, North Carolina (WTVD )- Bianca Harvey, who has been removed for more than 10 years since his days as a land star of Appalachian State, is still in class for a much more important challenge in her athletic career.
Harvey said, “When sports, we teach discipline. So I felt going to go into this. Of course we are weak and weaken through treatment, but always’ good, you must keep going. You have to keep fighting. ”Harvey said.
At the age of 33, Harvey was diagnosed with four -stage colon cancer.
Harvey said, “This began like a small pain in my stomach, and I just wiped it. It wasn’t a big problem in my eyes. Perhaps it was probably not a big thing like convulsions or things like that.
The case of colon cancer among the elderly has steadily dropped, but it has increased among people under 50. According to American Cancer SocietyThe diagnosis of colon cancer under 55 was almost doubled in 1995 (11%) to 2019 (20%). Since 2011, the ratio of colon rectal cancer has increased by 2 % annually from age 50.
Dr. Nicholas Devito, a medical tumor scholar of Duke Health, said, “We must continue to talk, and we must continue to emphasize that people who are advocated by themselves and doctors of the primary care community and other practitioners are willing to be willing to screen out patients with low critical prices under 45 years of age.
Symptoms of colon cancer include abdominal pain, diarrhea or constipation, blood, nausea, vomiting and loss of appetite.
“Our treatment is especially better for patients who have been diagnosed early. We are getting better in diagnosing patients before. But who is missing? They are under 45 years of age who are not subject to colonoscopy.”
Dr. Devito is a factor in which sedentary lifestyle, obesity and diet can play a role, but there are many parts of the patient’s control.
“The only risk factor needed for colon cancer is to have colons. It can actually occur. Our cells divide every day. Gene checkpoint fails. Therefore, tumors occur due to failure to check the immune checkpoint,” said Devito.
Early detection is the core. 5 years of relatives if they are caught before spreading Survival rate Both kidney and colon cancer are about 90%. This figure falls to the mid -70s when it spreads regionally. However, if it spreads to a distant part of the body, including liver or lungs, the survival rate is 13%for colon cancer patients and 18%for rectal cancer patients.
According to American Cancer SocietyAfrican Americans are more likely to get colon cancer and are more likely to die, and 40% are likely to die. To all patients, Devito said that there is a promising development in treatment.

“We not only try to develop target therapies and try to learn how we can use it better, but we actually see the main development of very exciting immunotherapy.”
Harvey received chemotherapy for 16 months before switching to immunotherapy in November.
“The starting stage of immunotherapy is rough. But now my body is completely adjusted and the side effects are not as bad as chemicals. ”
Devito said, “What we are looking at is that there is a sub set of fine satellite stable colon cancer patients, the most common types of colon cancer that can potentially react to certain immunotherapy, such as the second -generation immunotherapy of black species.
Thursday, Debito pointed out a scan showing Harvey’s progress.
Harvey said, “Every time he says that my number comes down or the tumor is getting smaller. “I’ve been so happy because we’ve come so far.”

Emphasizing the importance of family support, Harvey posted a journey to social media to connect with others.
“I was really encouraged to inspire others, and I couldn’t go to bed this morning, but your video made me laugh, of course I think it’s important, but it’s not just me in this bigger plan.
