Student 4 Mental Health Justice, an advocate of Harvard undergraduate students, sued the university on Thursday that it discriminated against students with mental health disorders in violation of US disabled laws.
The lawsuit insisted that Harvard responded to disability -related behaviors with exclusion, criticism and dracoian measures, saying, “It illegally discriminates against students with mental health disorders.”
The university spokesman did not respond to the request for this claim.
According to Harvard’s current policy, students who are taking medical vacations should petition to register the Harvard College Administrative Committee to class. According to the Harvard Student Handbook, these students said, “The situation leading to vacation has been satisfactorily dealt with and is ready to resume study.”
But this lawsuit claims that Harvard places the “additional barrier” to the students when he returns to the campus after a mental health absenteeism.
When you go back to campus from voluntary or involuntary vacations, students may need to disclose medical records to Harvard University Health Service. This lawsuit is explicitly aimed at this bill for compulsory and discriminatory.
Madeleine J. Reichman, an advocate and lawyer of S4MHJ, said, “We are ending the cumbersome requirements imposed on students who want to return to Harvard and to return Harvard.
Reichman said, “Harvard is especially imposing these requirements for students with mental health disorders, and this requirement is imposed on other students other than other students who are trying to return to campus after other types of vacation or other types of hospitalization.
The lawsuit shows the direct experience of five anonymous students who insist on Harvard’s mental health policy and harm practices. Students report that they must sign the contract and receive certain mental health treatment.
After one of the manuscripts, after experiencing mental health hospitalization, the university had to leave the vacation during the semester, forbidden to enter the campus.
“Harvard was at risk of being forced to withdraw from academic to complete the final exam because the student did not allow students to campus after hospitalization.” “Considering the limited choice of being forced to withdraw from academic or receiving medical leave for the rest of the semester and the whole semester, student A chose the latter.”
The lawsuit also quoted a student from “a case of” a case of preventing mental health treatment on campuses for suicide ideas “because he was afraid that she would be deployed on absence.
The lawsuit describes five experiences in detail, but S4MHJ consists of about 30 members (many Harvard undergraduates). The co -founder of the S4MHJ, EUNICE S. CHON ’26, said that this lawsuit is “the only choice.”
“I visited several students who were unconsciously hospitalized, and it was enough. We don’t think there is a different choice,” she said.
