A new study shows that the correlation with a higher risk of staying late and depression is higher.
Researchers at the University of Surrey said that mindfulness, sleep quality and alcohol consumption could be a night owl with a greater risk of depression among young people.
Those who stay late to stay late are mentioned by scientists in the evening chrono type, while the initial riser is said to be a morning chrono type.
The previous data showed the connection between chronotype and depression, but newspaper author and psychologist Simon Evans said that the new research develops further by explaining why.
“Our research said that this relationship can explain the relationship between the night owl guy, which reports that this relationship is that the level of everyday mind and the low quality of sleep and high alcohol consumption.” Newsweek.

EVENS said, “The connection between chronology and depression was completely mediated by specific aspects of mindfulness (especially by recognition), sleep quality and alcohol consumption.”
This seems to explain why these factors report more depression symptoms at night, and it was the most interesting aspect of the result. “
The researchers used the online questionnaire to collect data from 546 undergraduate students between April 2021 and March 2023. 31 %of these participants were men, 68 %were women, and all subjects between 17 and 28 were women.
Participants have been asked to overlook various aspects in the sleep cycle, energy peak time, recombination habits, depression levels, mindful practices and weekly alcohol consumption.
Almost half of the participants were classified as an evening type, and more depressive symptoms, higher levels of ruminants and alcohol consumption were much higher.
The evening chronotype also had a poor sleep quality that could be explained by the delayed social jet and the accumulation of sleep debt (cumulative effect that did not get enough sleep).
I think the morning people tend to sleep better and have more tired or carelessness, so they act with more perception. On the other hand, the night owl has a poor sleep quality, so there is less drowsiness and awareness.
This study emphasizes that acting by perception focuses on the present and reduces the amount of interest in negative past experiences or expectations for the future. As a result, it is thought that this can reduce the risk of experiencing depressive symptoms by promoting a more balanced time perspective.
Since almost 50 %of the participants are considered to be a night, researching the connection between late night and depression is important to identify how to reduce depression.
“Depression is a serious health problem that affects many people around the world. Depression affects everyday functions and can affect individual work and education. It also increases the risk of other serious health, including heart disease and stroke.”
“According to our study, higher mindfulness (e.g. guide meditation and mindfulness exercise), a better strategy of better sleep quality and alcohol use will be a positive help for these individual mental health.”
Evans thinks that it is helpful to adapt to work or education schedules, given that it has been confirmed as a major factor in poor sleep quality.
He suggests that later in the morning, when the start time starts in the morning, students can sleep longer and better.
