Minnie Police/S. Paul (03/24/2025) Researchers at the University of Minnesota received $ 1.5 million in cooperative agreements from the Ministry of Agriculture, which understood the disease transmission and conducted a cooperative project to alleviate the influence of HPAI for highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) for dairy chores and extensive agricultural industries.
In February 2022, a new deformation of a highly infectious virus was discovered in the US commercial and backyard poultry, and later confirmed by wild birds and increased mammals. There were also 68 identified human cases, including one death.
The existence of a new flu in the US cow was first confirmed in early 2024, renewing urgent concerns about animal and farm workers’ health and dairy supply chain. The virus is not as fatal than cow than poultry to date. However, as the potential to interfere with the health and production of dairy products and the perceptions of species radio waves, the necessity of immediate scientific investigation is emphasized.
SCOTT WELLS, a professor at the College of Veterinary Medicine, leads cooperation among research teams, including viruses, epidemiology, microbiology, veterinarians and agricultural biological security experts. The nine projects that have raised funds according to their subsidies will contribute to national efforts to protect public health and food security and to maintain food and security in the US dairy sector.
The team’s research begins with the fermentation of the new National Milk Surveillance Program, and the state allows the state to take appropriate mitigation measures, aiming to control the disease by identifying all the infected allorders first. In Minnesota, a surveillance test is conducted at the Minnesota veterinarian diagnostic laboratory at the College of Veterinary Medicine.
Wells said, “Minnesota has a lot of powerful livestock and poultry industries, including Turkey, pigs and dairy products, and HPAI affects all of them.” Minnesota University will help to solve this task. State -of -the -art diagnostic capacity and experts are trying to look at influenza from various angles across the industry. ”
As the disease continues to challenge world -class challenges, the results of this project will play an important role in forming future surveillance, response and preventive strategies. The research conducted in accordance with this subsidy will provide major insights to inform both dairy producers, veterinary experts and policy makers.
