New Delhi | September 22, 2025: Women’s Community Health Volunteers, Champions including Disability, Dr. SATENDRA SINGH and LEPRA SOCIETY have won the newly established WHO Southeast Asian Public Health Champion award.
The Women’s Community Health Volunteer (FCHV) is recognized as a transformation in improving motherhood and child health, increasing the scope of vaccination, promoting nutrition, and managing disease in Nepal’s most geographical and socially difficult regions.
FCHVS’s efforts contributed significantly to reducing maternal mortality from 901 people per date in 1990 to 151 in 2021, and 162 to 28 people (NDHS 2022, UNICEF) per birth. The FCHV program, recognized as an internationally inexpensive high -shocking model, is a replica of sustainable and gender equality and community -driven health system.
Dr. Satendra Singh, the physiology director of the University of Medical Sciences and GTB Hospital, has been selected as the individual category award to defend the disability in health systems and medical education.
Dr. Singh has led a variant advocacy to reconstruct disability from medical restrictions to human rights issues based on his vivid experience of disability and influence the policies, curriculum and institutional practices of India and around the world. Dr. Singh’s work shows sustainable and comprehensive public health innovations rooted in equity and authority.
LEPRA SOCIETY, a NGO operated in 1989, was selected as a public health champion in the agency category. It has played a pivotal role in medical innovation, such as the development of clophymine to treat leprosy, the introduction of multi -drug therapy, and the creation of customized shoes to prevent ulcers.
LEPRA SOCIETY operates in nine states and 143 districts in India and provides services through 146 medical centers in the marginalized areas. It has expanded its efforts to solve other health problems such as covid-19 during tuberculosis, HIV, lymph node pillaris and epidemic. LEPRA SOCIETY remains a private -centered medical provider that integrates innovation, research and sympathy to serve the underprivileged community and improve public health.
The southeastern Asian office won the Public Health Champion Award in June this year to continue to influence public health and announced the public health champion award to commemorate the special efforts of individuals and institutions that have gained a type of health award for members and regions. 50 names were awarded in Bangladesh, India, Nepal and Thailand.
The champion will be Felich at the event held in the 78th session of the WHO Southeast Asian Committee in Colombo, Sri Lanka.
