According to UCL’s academic community, NHS can prevent thousands of heart attacks and stroke every year by providing all British people over 50 years old to British.
at Opinion For BmjThe authors argued that the Polypill program could be a “flagship strategy” in the devotion of labor to prevent disease rather than treating the disease. The program uses only age to evaluate the eligibility that focuses on preventing disease rather than predicting disease.
They said such a strategy should replace NHS health checks. If the cholesterol decreased statin between 40 and 74 years of age is determined to have a high risk of a heart attack or stroke, or if the blood pressure is higher than a specific threshold, it is necessary to replace the five -year evaluation of 5 to 74 years of age.
The authors said that only 8%of people aged 50 or older must receive a polypill suggestion to achieve more health benefits than NHS health checks.
The authors pointed out a groundbreaking paper in 2003, which estimates that more than 55 polyfils can prevent about 80%of heart attacks and stroke. They argued that the conclusions were supported by clinical trials that have occurred since then.
Professor Aroon Hingorani (UCL Institute of Health Informatics) said: “NHS health checks do not work well. The intake is low and only four out of 10 people receive an appointment offer.
“Our complex risk prediction tools are not very effective. They do not predict those who will receive heart attacks or strokes. This is because most heart attacks and strokes have an average risk level.
“Now it’s time to do much better. The entire population approach can prevent more heart attack and stroke than the current strategy that only aims for a limited group.”
Professor Hingorani said, “Polypill programs will be simple, effective and potentially inexpensive strategies. This drug is too cheaper to leave the patent. For many years, the number of stinous side effects is low side effects, which reduces the side effects of these drugs and increases the advantages of low side effects.
“People can get a proposal from Polypill at the age of 50. You don’t need a health check or test, but you may need additional evaluations through online questionnaires to answer some questions to evaluate the risk of side effects.”
In their work, the authors were randomly trial in Iran’s rural areas published in 2019, and Polyville, which was taken for five years, reduced heart attack and stroke to one third.
In the analysis Post Last year, the author compared the optimal take -up of the NHS health test and the Polypill program (where everyone provided both checks and drugs). They found that the Polypill approach would have more than doubled in the years of life without a heart attack and a stroke.
A co -author of UCL Institute of Health Informatics (UCL Institute of Health Informatics) said, You can add folic acid to salt reduction and flour. “
According to the opinion, the next step is that the next step is a pilot project for evaluating how the national program can be best performed, absorption, compliance and cost.
Since local authorities have legal obligations to provide NHS health checks, they have required guidelines to grant health checkups to a polypill program.
“The current state is not a legitimate option,” the author concluded. “We have a means to prevent most of the heart attack and stroke, and now more than being prevented. What is needed is to translate what we know.”
This opinion was based on a discussion at a consensus construction seminar hosted by authors related to prominent health experts in various fields, including heart specialists, neurologists, epidemiologists, pharmacologists, statistics scholars and police officers.
In the UK, more than 7 million people have cardiovascular disease. About 100,000 people have a heart attack and more than 100,000 people have a stroke every year.
