Wichita, kan. (KWCH) -Laura Kelly Governor was in a groundbreaking groundbreaking groundbreaking place on Wednesday, New South Central Regional Psychiatric Hospital. This long -awaited facility aims to provide a safe environment for those who are considered inadequate for Kansas or trials facing the mental health crisis.
Sedgwick County Sheriff Jeff Easter explained that a new hospital will help to relieve overcrowding in prison.
Easter said, “What do you do in prison is that in incompetent people to be trial, they are sitting in jail until they are finished and we can evaluate the state hospital.”
On Wednesday, Governor Kelly emphasized the importance of mental health. Before entering politics, she worked as a therapist. She said she was passionate about providing help to people who are struggling with mental illness.
The governor said, “One of the things I’ve been trying to do has been to fill the difference in continuous management of mental health, because the system is only effective when dealing with all the bases.
SEDGWICK County officials still have more to do, but I hope that a new era of new mental health recognition will begin in Kansas.
