The World Health Organization (WHO) announced today that Nepal has eliminated rubella due to public health problems.
Rings or German measles are infectious virus infections. It is particularly serious for pregnant women because infection can lead to miscarriage, mortality, or lifetime and decay. But rubella can be prevented by a safe and cost -effective vaccine.
“Nepal’s success is confirmed by the strong devotion to leadership, the continuous efforts of health care workers and volunteers, and the future support for the future without a healthy start for a baby and the future without Robella disease.
SEA-RVC, which held annual meetings from July 22 to 24, 2025, reviewed and evaluated the information and data submitted by the National Verification Committee on measles and rubella diseases, and recommended to confirm the removal of Robella in Nepal.
Nepal is the sixth country of the WHO Southeast Asia to achieve the removal of the Rubela. By 2026, the WHO Southeast Asia, Bhutan, DPR Korea, Maldives and East Tier Reste, which set priority of measles and rubella as a public health problem, removed measles, and Bhutan, DPR Korea, Maldives, Sri Lanka, contemporary and Nepal removed Rowla.

Nepal introduced the ROUNCEN-ACTAING vaccine as a national campaign from 9 months to 15 years old in the 2012 vaccination program. The second dose of rubella -containing vaccine was added to the daily vaccination schedule in 2016.
In 2012, 2016, 2020, and 2024, four national campaigns with rubella vaccines helped to increase accessibility despite major public health emergencies such as Covid-199 Pandemic and earthquake in 2015 and 2023. By 2024, Nepal achieved more than 95% of the coverage for at least one dose of Robella vaccine.
Innovative strategies, such as observing the Month of Immune, volunteering for children’s vaccinations, and motivation for the earth to be completely vaccinated, provided additional stimuli on the efforts.
To further strengthen surveillance, NEPAL recently introduced a strong laboratory test algorithm in the WHO Southeast Asia.

Confirmation process
The regional verification committee for measles and rubella removal of the Southeast Asian region (SEA-RVC) was established to monitor the progress of measles and rubella removal in March 2016.
The National Verification Committee of the WHO Southeast Asia reports on an annual progress on the progress of measles and rubella to achieve the goals of measles and rubella, and SEA-rvc reviews when providing proposals and recommendations or achieving measles and rubella removal.
In 2013, the WHO Southeast Asia region set a goal of removing measles and controlling rubella by 2020. In 2019, the goal was revised by measles and rubella by 2023. In 2024, member states agreed to remove measurement and rubella by 2026.
