Bozeman -Montana Livestock (MDOL) said on Friday that it was very pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) in a group of Gallatin County’s backyard poultry.
According to a press release, six birds of the group died for 24 hours. This is the first detection of HPAI in Montana’s poultry this year, and there is a crowd of Montana’s 30th influence in connection with the outbreak of the country that began in 2022.
The release includes signs of hpai in poultry, which includes swelling eyes, discolored combs and legs, or significant reductions and feed consumption of eggs or water.

Migratory birds are the main sources of viruses, and domestic poultry infections are often associated with spring and autumn movements. Domestic poultry can be infected by direct contact with infected wild algae or contact with contaminated objects, equipment or environments. MDOL recommends house birds in the room as possible by poultry owners and continues to strengthen biological security measures to minimize the risk of disease through spring migration.
All poultry producers are recommended to immediately report the sudden disease or high death loss in poultry to veterinarians or MDOL (406/444-2976).
Those who have found sick or dead wild birds who have died on unknown causes are asked to contact local fish, wildlife and parks, biologists or local offices or call FWP wildlife veterinarians (406/577-7880).
Milk production suddenly reduces, appetite, heat, respiratory diseases, or dairy producers who observe loose feces that are not explained, should be reported to veterinarians or MDOL.
The crude oil of the sick cow should not be consumed.
