outline

The World Health Organization Regional Office for Southeast Asia (WHO SEARO) has published its 10th annual report. Monitoring progress towards universal health coverage and health-related Sustainable Development Goals in Southeast Asia – 2025 update. This report provides an in-depth analysis of progress at regional and country levels on health-related SDG indicators, along with five additional indicators from WHO’s 13th General Program of Work (GPW13).

Covering all 10 member countries, the report uses the most up-to-date data to compare performance against global targets. This highlights critical areas of progress and critical gaps that require accelerated action to achieve universal health coverage (UHC) and the health-related SDGs by 2030.

This year’s theme is “A Decade of Progress in Strengthening the Role of the Health Sector in Improving Civil Registration and Vital Statistics (CRVS) in Southeast Asia (2015-2024)”. The report details how countries have increased the completeness of birth and death registration, improved cause-of-death reporting, and strengthened health sector linkages with CRVS systems through the Regional Framework for Action on CRVS in Asia Pacific.

A notable feature of the 2025 report is an enhanced set of country profiles that provide evidence-based insights on UHC, SDG progress and CRVS system development. These profiles serve as a valuable tool for policymakers and help Member States track results, identify persistent challenges and prioritize actions to accelerate progress towards the 2030 Agenda.
