Nationwide health systems are facing how to recruit and maintain health care professionals. Student loan repayment programs and sign bonus are now incentives that attract the best talent for high -end specialty and location. Solving these tasks is important for the mission of the Veterans Health Administration (VHA).
The VHA uses a wide range of health education and training programs to prepare to enter the field to perform this mission. Interestingly, recent evaluation Alliance Evidence -based Policy Resources Center (PEPREC) found that increasing the size of medical education programs in the VHA Medical Center is related to the small reduction in facility productivity and the small increase in employee turnover rate. However, increasing the size of the program was also related to the reduction of the time required to fill the empty position.
PEPREC briefly explained the effects of the VHA doctor training program on the time of filling the productivity, turnover and vacancies. For more information, read the entire briefing here.
PEPREC is a team of health economists, public health research institutes and policy analysts who participate in policy admissions to improve the lives of veterans through advanced quantitative methods that are mostly funded by QUERI in the Veterans Health Bureau.
