The theme of the year The International Day of the midwives is as follows. “Sanctuary: It is important in all crises“The midwives are essential for the ability to prepare and withstand the crisis of the health system, but they are often not worth it and are excluded from preparation plans and response efforts.This is the moment when the midwives give up their birthplace as an essential health professional and advocate their points in all stages of preparation and response. The midwives can provide up to 90%of their grades, reproductive, motherhood, newborn and youth health (SRMNAH) in humanitarian crisis.
As a minimum of resources, the midwives are as follows.
- Provides safe birth, prenatal and postpartum treatment,
- Contraception, comprehensive abortion treatment and treatment for survivors of sexual violence,
- It supports breastfeeding and requires newborns to be safe, clean and reliable.
- Educate and prepare the community with the knowledge and tools needed to maintain safe and health during an emergency.
Main message
- Evidence is as follows: Investment in midwives saves life, improves health, and strengthens health systems.
- The increase in investment in midwives has saved up to 4.3 million lives every year by avoiding 67%of maternal deaths, 64%of newborns’ deaths and 65%of the death.
- We lack 900,000 midwives worldwide. Among the midwives we have, it is not as good as possible due to considerable barriers.
- In order to bridge the gap by 2030, we need 1.3 million new SRMNAH workers (mostly midwives and mostly Africa) in the next decade. Currently, we have 900,000 midwives worldwide.
- There are tribes that 900,000 midwives are required worldwide. There is a lack of all types of SRMNAH workers, but the biggest lack is midwives.
- The midwives tribe cannot be filled by other jobs. More midwives will not only approach more female, adolescents and newborns, but also free doctors and nurses to focus on other health demands.
- The progress of the SRMNAH workforce is not improved at the rate necessary to meet the SDG 3, and the gap between high -income and low -income countries will be expanded.
