Albani, New York- The Governor of Kathy Hochul announced a $ 88 million allocation to establish five “step -down” programs for adults with simultaneous mental illness and intellectual or developmental disorders after inpatient treatment.
The initiative, managed by the State Mental Health Office, will provide conditional funds over five years to develop a program that integrates important time intervention teams with transitional housing.
Hochul said.
Too often, New York residents with mental illness and simultaneous disorders have a lack of support for successful transition to independence. This fund will help to develop appropriate housing for these individuals and to pair with a team that can provide support to depend on the independent environment in the community.
The program will be implemented in various regions, including New York City, Long Island, West New York, Central and Hudson River Valley. Providers in New York City and Long Island will receive $ 2.1 million in operating funds and $ 652,216 for five years. On the other hand, providers in other regions will receive up to $ 1.9 million in operating funds and $ 66,400 in the same period.
