Oral Health State Profile 2022: Nepal
message SAIMA is WAZED, director of WHO Southeast Asia
World Oral Health DayThe annual marked on March 20 is to note that oral health is a major indicator of overall health, welfare and quality of life.
Oral disease is one of the most common non -communication diseases worldwide and affects about 3.5 billion people, and the World Health Organization is repeating the promise of the Bangkok Declaration by demanding accelerated behavior from Southeast Asia and partners. “There is no health without oral health“In November 2024, I was adopted from the WHO Global Oral Health Meeting.
Oral disease and condition have a harmful effect on physical symptoms, functional limitations and emotional, mental and social welfare. Among the six WHO regions, Southeast Asia reports the highest. 900 million Oral Disease and Status -Reflect many population in this area. Our area also has the highest burden of oral cancer in all regions. This is a major cancer among men in this area, accounting for 11.2%of all cases.
Southeast Asia is also the home of a country, which is a major consumer of proven carcinogens that cause oral cancer, such as led to smoke or areca nuts. Recent analysis shows that one of the two cases of oral cancer in our region is due to led to smoke or areca nut consumption. This essentially indicates the number of cases that can be prevented by emphasizing the potential effects of primary prevention by removing a lead -free cigarette or Areca nut consumption from the population.
In the background of the high burden of oral disease and condition, I reaffirm my promise to provide all countries with executable guidelines and technical support. Southeast Asia Regional Action Plan for Oral Health 2023-2030By 2030, we will control this area for universal health insurance for oral health.
The first global oral health meeting held in Bangkok in November 2024 was a valuable platform for members to share their knowledge and learn from other countries’ experiences. The National Oral Health Roadmaps, officially formulated at the meeting, is a strategic planning tool that guides the state to translate the priorities that have been identified over the next few years into an executable stage.
In order to solve the high burden of oral cancer, which is due to the lack of smoke and areca nut consumption, the government responds to the request of the member country to support the technical support, which is in the process of formulating the WHO Southeast Asian roadmap to solve the burden of oral cancer. The goal of this tool is to guide member states in local strategies to solve the burden of oral cancer and other health results.
While promising WHO’s continuous technical support, I urge all oral health stakeholders to use guidelines to accelerate progress toward universal oral health by 2030.
