According to new data from the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, more than 36,000 children under 5 years of age entered the emergency room and did not take the medication.
Local experts say that they can properly dispose of safer stores or old prescriptions to prevent many visitors from these visits.
Old drugs are at risk to children and pets.
Melody Abraham, a pharmacy director of Parkside Psychiatric Hospital in Tulsa, says that drugs that are not left in drawers or cabinets are often in touch with children or pets.
Abraham said, “Children and pets -if they enter, they can be miserable to them.” “Adult doses in children may be toxic.”
She recommends that the drugs that are not used, expired or unnecessary, especially before they fall into the wrong hand or foot, are safely disposed of.
CITY warns without washing or throwing medicine
To buy a tool, warns about washing the drug under the bathroom or throwing it into the trash.
Most wastewater treatment systems are not designed to filter pharmaceutical chemicals, which means that trace of drugs can contaminate local streams and harm aquatic wildlife.
Instead, experts should use a certified place to get off or participate in the drug takeback.
I talk with children about drug safety
Abraham also recommends talking with the children about the risk of misuse of the drug that the family misuse. Especially if not prescribed.
“If you are doing that medicine, it’s a good starting point,” she said. “Please talk about why you have. It may not be opioid. It may be blood pressure drugs or antibiotics.
What to do in drug emergencies
If someone does not accept the drug, Abraham urges the family to call 911 or toxic control immediately. In some cases, emergency treatment may be required to remove the drug from the system.
