The University of Bergen is a famous educational and research institute, organized as seven faculty and about 54 institutions and academic centers. The campus is located in the center of Bergen. It is located in university areas of Nygårdshøyden, haukeland, marineholmen, Møllendalsveien and årstad. From February 1, 2026, the Department of Medicine will receive four (4) positions for students in the medical student research program.
Successful candidates will be appointed full time for three years (3 years) or up to four months after the doctoral degree is completed.
Part -time options:
You can extend the total employment period to 6 years by combining part -time (50 %) doctor’s location and other part -time (50 %) positions. Applicants must indicate these preferences in the application and approve the part -time contract before both employers start.
The position will be partnered with the professors’ department related to the project.
The four positions are open doctoral locations.
The position is available by applicants with a master’s degree related to the study of faculty.
Four doctoral degrees are designated for applicants who participated in the medical student research program.
This position is for participants who have completed the medical research program. You must start with your position right after the degree is completed.
Candidates who graduated in the fall of 2025 begin on February 1, 2026. Candidates who graduated in the spring of 2026 begin on September 1, 2026.
Successful candidates will be employed in a full time (100%) position for three years, and will be hired until the time or doctoral degree required to deduct the training components of the organized research and training (PHD program). Successful candidates must work for up to 20 hours a year with medical student education programs. This work, related to recruitment, promotion and similar tasks, is agreed with the head of the medical student research program.
Applicant evaluation:
Applicants are evaluated according to the following standards:
- applicant: Applicants’ competencies, grades and related professional activities. Applicants must earn a master’s degree.
- ProjecT: The scientific value of the project, and the validity within the framework of Ph.D. and Ph.D.
- Research environment: Candidate development skills in the research environment, related publication activities
- For 6-12 months, visit to international institutions is generally positive. The application should include a description of how to integrate overseas visits and how to add value to the project.

Organized research and training (PHD program):
The completed doctoral degree is the purpose of the location. The candidates must register and complete the requirements of the doctoral program within the period. The entrance and final plan of the PHD program, including the overview of the project plan for the educational plan, must be approved by the faculty within three months after the start of the position.
Doctoral location:
The doctor is a fixed position. The same agency may not have received a Ph.D. for more than one fixed period or a similar employment in the local institution.
In the Ph.D., the educational language is in English.

- It should include a description of the supervisor’s supervision experience (master and doctor). This document also includes a list of major supervisors and mentors, and a list of doctoral candidates who support funds by the Department of Medicine. List the name of the candidate, the start date and the expected end date of each candidate. If the Department of Medicine is not currently a major supervisor or mentor of the candidate who supports funds, this must be clearly mentioned. Additional information:
Major supervisors must maintain at least 50 %permanent position in medical departments. The person in the faculty’s part -time position is an exception for the faculty who occupies all the positions in the primary health services of Helse Vest, Norce or Western Norway.
Major supervisors must be hired by faculty during the entire doctoral period. During the entire period, the deviation with the appointment rules can be accepted, but in the application, it is necessary to explain how others hired by the department should handle the supervision. If you retire or become honorable within the doctoral course, you cannot be the main bishop.
Only one application of each main supervisor is processed within each category (PHD and post -doctoral researcher).
