The new requirements for pharmaceutical prices in private clinics and hospitals, which will be implemented on May 1, are not to control the price of pharmaceuticals, but to provide better information on the available medicines, Datuk Armizan Mohd ALI said today.
In a statement published by the Ministry of Home Affairs, Armizan explained that this initiative will help the public compare prices and medical facilities so that they can plan spending according to the drug costs that individuals should pay.
The minister announced “Semarak Konsumerisme” (consumerism) on the topic of the consumer movement agenda for 2025, along with the National Consumer Day, which was celebrated every year on March 15, 2025.
This theme aims to encourage the public to actively participate in raising public awareness and understanding the universal rights as a consumer. “The consumer movement plays an important role in gaining more information and forming a responsible and protected consumer society. The active role of the consumer movement is important to compensate for the government’s continuous efforts to protect the public’s interests as a consumer. ”
Armizan said, “The purpose of this command is to simply display the price. It allows the public to access information about the cost of pharmaceuticals so that you can choose information based on the rights and options for information. ”Armizan added.
Price display initiatives are also expected to help inhibit Malaysia’s high medical inflation rate. In 2025, Malaysia’s expected medical inflation rate is 15%, which is higher than the average of 10%of the Asia Pacific and 11%in the world.
Previously, private hospitals and clinics were reported to start to display drug prices in the facility from May 1, according to the broader price transparency policy of medical services.
Dr. Datuk seri dlzulkefly Ahmad Minister said that this proposal was not opposed by the Malaysian Association (APHM).
Armizan was announced on October 3, 2023 at the Living of Living (NACCOL) meeting, and the drug price transparent mechanism (MKHU) was announced and announced in the cabinet in January to approve the mechanism.
The minister added that the price labeling requirements will be implemented according to AKHAP 2011, and the minister adds that the minister may require the price or service to the product or service, including the method of providing information through the official orders published in the government. -March 14, 2025
