Human intestines are the home of a dense microbial network known as the intestinal microbial group, which helps to actively form our health. Microorganisms help digestion, train the immune system, and protect us from dangerous intruders. However, this protection can be interrupted by antibiotics to prevent the growth of pathogenic bacteria when used for treatment as well as antibiotics.

A new study shows that the system of targeting many drugs of the human body can also change the microbial cluster so that the pathogen can easily colonize and infect the intestine. Researchers studied 53 common non -antibiotics, including allergic therapies, antidepressants and hormone drugs. Grießhammer said, “Our consequences show that we need to observe the effects of the microbial group as well as the desired therapeutic effect when taking the drug.” The necessity of the drug is impossible, but even the drugs with little side effects can collapse.

“It is already known that antibiotics can damage the intestinal microbial guns. Now we have a strong sign that we can harm this natural protection barrier where many other drugs are invisible. This can be dangerous to the weak or the elderly.”

Researchers recommend that the effects of drugs for microbial groups should be systematically included in the study during development. In particular, it is recommended that it will be systematically included in the study of antihistamines, anti-psychotic drugs or optional estrogen-receptor regulators and combinations of various drugs.
