Quincy (WGEM) -The protein supplements are becoming more common for student athletes.
A doctor in a region shared why it was important to monitor protein intake, especially before and after exercise.
Cesar Arguelles, head of SIU medical program of primary medical sports medicine programs, said that too much or too little protein could be very dangerous. He said too much protein can actually load the kidneys, but the lack of protein means that the body does not need to function correctly.
Arguelles said, “And a healthy person who goes to a doctor regularly and gets a laboratory may not know that the kidneys are compromised.”
Arguelles can also be found in many protein meat and vegetables, so if you use supplements, you must know the protein, which is part of the imagination.
Arguelles said that as long as the intake was monitored, both protein supplements and natural proteins have advantages.
Arguelles also said that the FDA has a provision for protein supplements and a provision for advertising.
