West Palm Beach, Florida (CBS12) – Walgreens agreed to an agreement with the US government to an agreement with a $ 300 million agreement to illegally fill millions of invalid opioid prescriptions and resolved false claims to the Federal Health Program.
The agreement announced by the US Department of Justice (DOJ) on Monday argued that Walgreens and various subsidiaries violated the control material law and violated the false claim law by writing prescriptions without legal medical purposes from August 2012 to March 2023.
The consensus of page 38 includes $ 50 million additional payments if Walgreens sold, merged or transferred before fiscal year 2032. The government insisted that the Walgreens pharmacist filled the prescription despite the timely manner that the pharmacist wrote a prescription and indicated that the pharmacist quickly filled the prescription and ignored the evidence of illegal distribution practices.
Attorney General Pamela Bondi emphasized the legal responsibility of the pharmacy that safely distributes control.
“The pharmacy has legal responsibility to prescribe controlled materials in a safe and professional manner, and does not distribute dangerous drugs for profits, and the Ministry of Justice is trying to end the opioid crisis and to be responsible for not protecting the patient from bad actors.”

“We will continue to be responsible for organizations and individuals that have contributed to the opioid crisis,” said Michael Granston.
This consensus includes a contract with DEA and HHS-OIG to identify prescription effectiveness and to implement regulations such as annual education to pharmacy employees. Walgreens also signed a five-year integrity contract with HHS-OIG to maintain the compliance program.
DEA’s administrator Derek Maltz said, “If one of the largest pharmacies in the United States, the guy duty of Guy has endangered the health and safety of the customer and dangerous the US.”
The agreement solves four internal accusers in accordance with the False Claims Act (FCA). The FCA gives the internal accusers the authority to sue on behalf of the United States and receive a stake in recovery. Claims for Walgreens are just claims without responsibility.
