According to Lincoln, NEB (Koln) -American Cancer Society, colon cancer is the third most common diagnosis in the United States.
If you are caught early, one of the most treated forms is prayed. This is why organizations such as Bryan Health and their patients are trying to raise awareness of the importance of early detection.
Lincoln Aboriginal Tiffany Mullison first admitted. She began her first colonoscopy for almost 10 years.
“I was one of the people who didn’t get a note to get the first colonoscopy at age 45,” she said. “So I waited until I was 54 years old. I found that it could be a colon cancer because it could be a simple 12 -hour preparation and procedure.”
The January 2023 procedure could have no cancer of Mulson, but it was enough time to feel the extreme feelings that often came with the diagnosis.
She remembers what she said to her neighbors. “This is terrible. Will I die? What can happen to me? What happens to my children? I haven’t set a comfortable level yet. ”
The comfort was established with the help of Jill Geschke, a navigator of Bryan Health’s oncology nurse. Navigators, such as Geschke, act as a contact point for people diagnosed with cancer recently, helping to explore the complex emotions and information provided with the situation.
“We are actually the expansion of the medical team,” she said. “The emotional impact that can be on people is huge, so it is important to support emotional and physical challenges from the navigator.”
According to the Nebraska Cancer Union, colon cancer is the second most fatal cancer in Nebraska. Only in 2025, they estimate 940 new diagnosis throughout the state. The effect of these numbers and initial detections is why people like Mullison want to change the conversation around Colon.
“It’s the embarrassing part of our body.” “When we tear the ACL, my friends see it and talk about it. But we should be able to say, ‘I have a promise to get a colonoscopy after work on Friday.’ So we ‘Oh, I haven’t got mine for a while. I have to do that too. ‘”
